I am Jack Wiley, currently serving as Dean of Instruction/Director of Concurrent and
Community Education Programs on the Alamosa campus of Trinidad State College in Alamosa
Colorado. In addition to my assignment as Dean of Instruction, I also teach agriculture
courses and a variety of education courses. My coursework is offered traditional face
to face, hybrid, concurrent and online.
I moved to the San Luis Valley several years ago after retiring as a public school
administrator in New Mexico. I started my education career as a vocational agriculture
teacher and was recruited to move into administration. I served as an administrator
in the same school district in Northeast New Mexico for 25 years. The last 15 years
at Clayton Schools, I was the district Superintendent and responsible for personnel,
finance, federal programs, transportation, and curriculum. I was fortunate to work
with some very talented principals and teachers who helped with responsibilities.
I was also fortunate to work extensively with Mesalands community college as they
provided college credit for our concurrent students in our high school.
My agriculture background includes cow-calf and yearling beef operations, farrow to
finish swine operations, farm flock sheep operations, corn, and wheat production,
as well as sales and service for agriculture. In addition to agriculture courses,
and education coursework currently offered at TSC, over the years, I have taught many
other classes (biology, general science, woodworking, welding, accounting, speech,
parliamentary procedure) in various venues.
I have taken the bulk of my college coursework and received my bachelors and Masters
degrees from New Mexico State University. Both degrees are in Agriculture/Extension
Education. Additionally, I have taken many education courses from Eastern New Mexico
University. I have also completed coursework at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. I am
a licensed teacher and school administrator in New Mexico with endorsements in computer
education, Vocational Agriculture, and Science. I am a licensed Principal and Superintendent
in the state of Colorado. Additionally, I hold a current CTE credential in the state
of Colorado.
I recently judged the National FFA Proficiency awards. I judged a preliminary round
in August and that is where the finalists come from. Today I judged the finalists
in a different Proficiency area. What an opportunity to be able to interview 4 very
talented young people from across the nation. I have judged the state contests in
New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. I had the opportunity to judge the national
public speaking contest several years ago and am very proud to be a part of the FFA’s
national contests.
